Get the Perfect Fit Every Time
A well-fitted mouthguard offers the best protection and comfort during sport. At Mouthguards Direct, we make the process as straightforward as possible. Whether you’re fitting a new guard for the first time or adjusting it for a better fit, our step-by-step guide takes you through it.
Every mouthguard is supplied with full instructions, but here’s a quick overview of how to get it right.
Place your mouthguard in hot (not boiling) water for around 8–10 seconds. This softens the material, making it ready to mould.
2. Remove and shake off excess water
Place your mouthguard in hot (not boiling) water for around 8–10 seconds. This softens the material, making it ready to mould.
3. Position it over your top teeth
Place the softened mouthguard squarely onto your top teeth. Press it into position using your thumbs.
4. Create the mould
Suck your thumb hard to draw the guard around the back of the teeth. With your lips closed, gently bite your lower teeth into the guard to help shape the bottom edge.
5. Shape the front
Use your fingers to press against your top lip, helping the guard mould to the front of your upper teeth.
6. Check the fit
Once moulded, open your mouth slightly. The guard should stay in place without needing to bite down. If it doesn’t, simply reheat and repeat the process until it fits snugly and comfortably.
Reheat and Refine as Needed
Don’t worry if the first attempt doesn’t feel quite right. The mouthguard can be reheated and remoulded until the fit is spot on. Just follow the same steps again. A secure fit is key to protection — it shouldn’t fall out or feel loose during use.
